Redelm's muscles still ached from the intense battle that had raged not long ago. But it was all worth it, if it meant that Emberstar was gone and done with, never to return. He even got a petty sense of satisfaction from the fact that he hadn't been officially recognized as a leader by their ancestors. But even though their tyrannical leader was gone, that didn't stop his exiled followers from being annoying and causing them trouble along the borders. Their leader was gone, and yet they still found they had it in them to be nuisances. What was it they were even after, anyway? Revenge? What would it take to get them to leave them alone?[break][break]
Windclan had a rough go of it the past few moons, but with a new leader, things were surely going to be looking up, right? But it seemed the clan had been split in their opinions of him. Some, like himself and Alderstone, fully believed in and supported the tom. However, many others-- including his own brother, no less-- couldn't bring themselves to trust him. But Redelm had been Viperstar's former apprentice, and remains one of his closest advisors. He knew Viperstar, and he knew that everything he did, he did for the good of his clan. After all, Emberstar had done so many horrible things to his half-brother, surely no one in their right mind could support such a horrible tom.[break][break]
He knew Lionthroat was entitled to his opinions, but he'd never get to know Viperstar like Redelm did. No matter how many times Lionthroat tried to change his opinion, he wouldn't budge. Viperstar's a good cat. Lionthroat just doesn't understand. The ginger tom found himself pacing listlessly in the middle of camp. The day had come and gone, and the area was bathed in the fading light of the setting sun. Yet even though he should be trying to settle down for the night, his mind was racing a million miles an hour and his body thrummed with energy. With a sign, he sat down slowly and stared up at the darkening sky with his tail slowly waving behind him. Though he knew he should be relieved that Emberstar was gone, he still felt worried and anxious. About Viperstar, about the rogues, about the other clans...

Lionthroat watched his brother pace for a few moments before he went to confront him. But, really, the large red tom wanted nothing more than to ease redelm's state of mind. But even with the rogues attacking them and the unsteady relationship between Windclan and Riverclan, Lionthroat knew that he didn't have the words to make Redelm calm down. Besides, there was no telling how many lies or half-truths Viperstar was telling him. He worried about his brother, but the tom wouldn't budge.

Finally, Redelm took a seat on the ground, in the middle of the camp, and Lionthroat took that to mean it was his cue to go over to see if he was alright. He worried that his brother's mind was overwhelmed with the pressure Viperstar gave him for such a young warrior. "Hey." he said quietly in his soft, low voice. "You doing okay? You look stressed. Anything I can help out with?"

It didn't matter to Lionthroat that they were in opposite beliefs about Viperstar. The other red tom was still his brother and he would do whatever he could to calm the state of his mind. The presence of the rogues was weighing down the whole clan, not just Redelm. His eyes dropped to the floor in shame. Despite their distances, Lionthroat hated that the two of them we separated in beliefs. Because then it meant they weren't hanging out more than they used to and he didn't want to lose his brother to disagreement.

"hey." the only sign of acknowledgement of lionthroat's sudden appearance was a faint twitch of redelm's ear, and a brief glance over at his brother out of the corner of his eye. "you doing okay? you look stressed. anything i can help out with?" immediately he felt a faint stir of guilt in his chest. sure there were things they didn't agree on, but they were still brothers. redelm still cared for lionthroat deeply, and he felt grateful that he would go out of his way to check up on him. he remained silent for a few minutes, opening and closing his mouth as he attempted to put his conflicted feelings into words. he'd never really been good at talking-- that was mostly lionthroat's thing.[break][break]
"i'm okay. i'm just... nervous, i guess." surprisingly earnest, coming from the normally easygoing tom, but it was the truth. "it feels like things should be better now, but i can't help but feel worried. and it's not just because of emberstar's former lackeys being annoying." true, it was certainly something they should do something about, but the biggest cause for concern was the mixed opinions within the clan. he was scared someone would try to start another coup, and split windclan again-- he truly hoped viperstar could prove himself before it came down to that.[break][break]
"i just wish things could go back to normal." after a moment, he glanced back up at the sky. "then again, what even is normal now?" clan life was always like this, wasn't it? it always had its ups and downs. he turned to lionthroat again and chuckled. "i'm just being a worrywart. sorry if i worried you. i appreciate your company all the same." with that said, he scooted a bit closer to the other tom, carefully brushing his pelt against the other's. "you know, we haven't spent time together like this in a while, huh? if only we weren't so busy, we could do this a bit more often." he didn't want to lose his connection with his brothers, no matter what their opinions on the matter were.

It took a moment for his brother to truly acknowledge his presence, and that worried Lionthroat for just a moment. He couldn't lose his brother, not to disagreements. Another sense of bitterness filled his heart as he thought about how much time Redelm spent with Viperstar over his own brother. But Lionthroat threw the thought out the window as he realized how much of his time was spent with Lichenstrike. Viperstar was someone that Redelm found worthy of his time. Just as Lichenstrike was worthy of Lionthroat's time. And honestly, that wasn't going to change anytime soon. Still, he missed the other red tom dearly and had a desperate desire to keep him close.

Lionthroat sat beside his brother thoughtfully, listening to his concerns and drifting them through the filter in his own mind. Redelm was a good warrior, he knew, and a good warrior was loyal and willing. And Redelm was both loyal and willing. He wasn't just a good warrior. He was a great warrior. He just gave his loyalty to... potentially the wrong leader. But. If Viperstar was really a good leader, and Lionthroat was proved wrong, then he would also pledge his own loyalty. He just didn't want to follow someone who wasn't going to treat Windclan and his family well.

The big red tabby glanced over at the slightly smaller red tabby. He didn't have all the answers, but one thing was for certain, he trusted Redelm with all his heart. "Normalcy is an illusion that blinds us once we get comfortable with the life we're living." His voice rumbled softly. "To me, life shouldn't be normal. We become too complacent and then life can tear us apart when it decides to throw nature back in our faces."

His amber eyes drifted over to his brother and then they dropped back to the ground with a moment of uncertainty showing within them. "I think we should be ready for the unexpected to happen. We won't have all the answers, and bad things will happen, but let's try to experience them together so neither of us gets left behind. Deal?"

Lionthroat smiled and then allowed his low purr to emanate from him to Redelm and then grabbed him with an arm and began to rasp his tongue over the fur on the top of his brother's head. Licking his forehead and ears roughly, but affectionately.

redelm was silent and thoughtful as he listened to lionthroat speak. he'd always been the one that was better with words. where redelm was careless and said whatever was on his mind, lionthroat spoke carefully and elegantly. it was a skill not many carried, and one that redelm had always found intriguing. he'd always thought that lionthroat would be the best leader of the four of them, and redelm would've been more than happy just supporting him from the sidelines. it broke his heart that recent events had kept them apart more than he would've liked. but sitting here beside him he felt a familiar warmth and affection spreading through him. lionthroat's voiced seemed to soothe all of his worries, and a bright smile appeared on his face.[break][break]
"you're right. this is why you're the smart one." he remarked playfully with a wink. redelm knew he wasn't the brightest, but it didn't matter to him. he was never worried about being the perfect warrior-- he just wanted to serve his clan and have a good time. he wanted to support the ones he cared about the most. viperstar was his teacher and a great friend, but he had an unbreakable bond with lionthroat and their other brothers, and redelm wouldn't give it up for anything.
