The moors stretched out before them as if it was an ocean. Each blade of grass had it’s place with the flow of the grass that coated the moors, blown by the wind that whistled past in gusts. Wrenwhisper could’ve watched it for hours from her place by the entrance of the camp, studying the glinting sunlight from the midday sun that reached high above. Yet, it was the familiar excitement, the bubbling of enthusiasm and relief that redirected the former queen from her watching. StarClan, she’d spent sixty moons watching. Finally, it was time to roam them, to remember the grounds that had once been so familiar to her in her youth. Before Firecall became everything and took it all from her all at once. Of course, she’d already been on patrols. The borders were important to memorise, and that was a task she could remember well enough. But hunting and knowing the details of the land… those were long distant skills that she ached to reclaim. Thankfully, it wasn’t a journey she would have to take alone. “Lichenstrike, sweetheart, are you ready?” She called back toward the camp entrance, soft voice competing with the wind as it tumbled past in waves. No, the kits she had spent moons raising and living through in their growth were there, and she savoured the chance to be by their sides as warriors, not just as their mother. It seemed like forever since he’d been able to spend some quality time with Wrenwhisper, and he had every intention of making an event out of it. He’d given Nightingalepaw a free day, given she’d recently accompanied him on a patrol and he could only imagine she was exhausted, and Swiftfoot had been merciful enough to not assign him patrols two days in a row. Even if she had, he would have found a way to wriggle out of it.[break][break]

Lichenstrike’s ears pricked at the gentle sound, pulled out of thought, and he bounded over. “Always ready,” he chimed, reaching down to press his forehead affectionately to hers. StarClan, he didn’t know when exactly he’d grown taller than her. It was strange to look down over her when he could remember so clearly being nestled by her stomach and it was strange to see her gazing over the territory instead of curled in the corner of the nursery. But they were going to change that today.[break][break]
“Was there anywhere you wanted to visit first?” He bumped her shoulder as he moved forward, paws itching to carry him anywhere out of camp. “Outlook rock has a lovely view this season. Or, there’s a meadow bursting with flowers right now. Anywhere at all; we have all day together.”[break][break]

“always ready.” With the butt of Lichenstrike’s head against her own, Wrenwhisper let out a soft purr, taking the time to give her son a few licks against his cheek. Stepping back, she scanned the outstretched moors before them, her paws itching to move. “was there anywhere you wanted to visit first?” Lichenstrike’s shoulder bumped hers as she immediately fell into step as they moved out into the open air. “outlook rock has a lovely view this season. or, there’s a meadow bursting with flowers right now. anywhere at all; we have all day together.” The she-cat gave a small purr, glancing up at the taller tom before picking up her pace, striding forward into the grass. Her muscles ached slightly with the movement, but… “Honestly, I’d just love to run,” she meowed, looking to Lichenstrike with a grin. “How about you show me how fast you can run these days? All the way over to the tunnel entrance near the gorge?” She meowed, stepping forward a little and lifting her head to taste the air that flowed past. TAGGED: ➶kyries with lichenstrike
