as much as redelm worried about windclan's future, he worried even more for the well-being of his mentor. his friend. viperstar was young, of course, and emberstar's half-brother-- he knew many in windclan has their reservations about him, but redelm knew he was reliable. he knew viperstar was a good cat. he really hoped the clan would come around over time. but being leader was a lot of pressure, he was sure, and he was worried it might be taking its toll on viperstar. waiting to make sure he wasn't needed elsewhere, he waited a few minutes before seeking out the leader. "viperstar?" the ginger tom meowed as he approached, his face relaxing into its usual easygoing smile.[break][break]
"if you're not busy right now, did you want to come hunting with me? a little bit of a break might do you some good. plus, i can show you how much i've improved!" he added with a playful wink. he'd been practicing lots, even after his warrior ceremony. couldn't let his skills go rusty after all! though he did want to spend time with his friend, the truth was that he was just a bit worried about him. he wanted to check up on viperstar-- after all, he was well aware that viperstar tried so hard to please the rest of the clan at his own expense. nothing wrong with being a bit selfless, but he didn't want it to get too far![break][break]
"i'll understand if you're busy, though." instinctively his gaze roamed, searching for the familiar forms of his brothers. lionthroat wasn't a fan of viperstar, he knew, and would likely disapprove of redelm spending time with him. but viperstar had been his teacher, and taught redelm everything that he knew-- he was confident that viperstar would be a good leader, even if the others didn't think so. i just hope all this tension doesn't lead to anything bad.

He was so tired. Viperstar worked hard to spend time with his clan, trying to uplift them and help out around camp. But he knew that no matter what he did around camp, that wasn't going to get everyone to unify behind him. He needed to prove to them that not only was he trustworthy, but that he was a strong leader in general.

There was a brief feeling like someone was watching him and he forced himself not to look around. At the sound of his name he flinched slightly and turned toward the familiar voice. Viperstar relaxed the moment he laid his shifty eyes on his young companion and friend, Redelm. The tom always had a way of making him smile, and smile he did as he watched his former apprentice approach.

"Redelm," he responded calmly and then listened to the young warrior suggest a small hunting patrol between the two of them. There was an underlying hint of something else, which Viperstar assumed to be that Redelm was looking to check up on him, and that just brought warm and fuzzies to his heart.

"Of course! I wouldn't miss critiquing you for the world." He said with a snicker as he moved toward the camp entrance with his friend. As he made his way outside the den, Viperstar pressed his body close to his former apprentice in a gesture of seeking comfort. His small body nearly drowning in the fur of the larger cat beside him. "Do you trust me?" His eyes dropped to the ground as they moved across the moor, a sigh drifting from his maw.

though redelm was trying real hard to keep his composure, he couldn't hold back the wide grin that spread across his face as viperstar accepted his invitation, and a sharp laugh escaped the tom. "of course you wouldn't. you always have something to say about my techniques." he stuck out his tongue briefly with a playful glimmer in his eyes as he quickly followed viperstar, falling into step beside the leader as they left the camp behind and headed out into the moors. his gaze sharpened as he focused, his ears pricking and his nose twitching, but he was momentarily distracted as viperstar pressed into him, nearly disappearing into his fluffy pelt. the sight nearly made him chuckle, but he held back.[break][break]
the softly uttered words blew away any playfulness he may have had left, however, and his gaze softened. "i do. i'd trust you with my life, viperstar." the young warrior uttered vehemently, completely sincere. "no matter what happens, i'll always have your back. i know you're a good cat, and you'll be a great leader. i just wish my brothers felt the same." an uncomfortable expression crossed his face and he coughed slightly and shook his head. "i guess a lot of cats don't, really, which worries me. but i'm sure they'll all come around sooner or later. you're working so hard for us, after all."[break][break]
which reminded him of the reason he asked viperstar to come out here to begin with. "that reminds me. are you doing okay? i know you're working hard, but i worry you're working too hard, you know?" he chuckled softly. There was silence as Viperstar closed his mouth and thought. This was normal. Viperstar was a slow processor and a quiet individual. He wasn't an impulsive warrior whatsoever, and so when it came to emotionally taxing moments, Viperstar needed a moment to clarify his own thoughts before he responded.

When his mouth did open the leader slowed down and came to a stop. His eyes lifting to his former apprentice and a smile on his maw. "Thank you for your support and your trust in me." he said, his voice calm and quiet. "I know I'm not alone, but I also know that there are those who don't trust me." His eyes dropped to the ground and he stared at his paws for a moment. "It's not their fault." he said, his thoughts shifting in his mind. "I haven't done what is necessary to gain their trust. I don't trust them, and that's my biggest weakness."

A smile broke on his face though as his eyes lifted back onto his friend. "I trust you, I'm still learning what trust really means. But you have been a big part in teaching me. Because of you, we were able to take down our greatest enemy."
