[attr="class","arrgenMAINTEXT"]Like most kittypets, Patches is a curious cat. Sitting on the window ledge in the twoleg nest and staring in awe of the grandeur of the forest that lay outside his garden never failed to invoke his imaginative side. Such curiosities only grow stronger, especially for a cat like him, causing him to grow restless by the day. He swears, one day he will venture out into the unknown, to scratch that itch.
Neighboring kittypets know Patches as a friendly tom, always willing to lend a listening ear when they share tongues in the garden or chat from atop the fence posts. It comes as no surprise that this tom is also known for being talkative, and desires to get to know everyone he meets. Sometimes, he can talk a little too much for other’s liking. However, it is a trait that is hardly considered negative when paired with his empathetic nature.
Patches hates to see anyone in a bad situation. He hates to see anyone feeling sad or distressed. His empathy speaks volumes of his true character. Patches will be the first to befriend a lonely cat or to check up on a friend who hasn’t been feeling well. If there is something he can do to better a situation, you can bet he’ll do it. This in turn has also given him a reputation for being a reliable and consistent cat; the ways in which he responds or reacts to a situation can usually be predicted.
Below the surface, there’s a hidden side to Patches and internal struggles that he is not immune to just like everyone else. Deep down this kittypet is deeply unfulfilled with his life. All he’s ever known is the comfortable life doted on by his twolegs. While he loves them deeply, he has idealistic dreams of a different kind of life: the life of a forest cat.
These fantasies of living in the wild and sleeping under the stars call to him stronger than anything ever has his entire life. Since he was a kitten he heard the stories from older kittypets in the neighborhood. Surely, they weren’t the savage beasts everyone made them out to be? There had to be some things they shared in common. There must have existed something about their lives that was alluring enough to avoid twolegs.
When sharing these thoughts with his friends he’s been called reckless for considering the idea of going out into the forest and seeing for himself what was true in the stories told in their midday gossip. Perhaps, he is simple-minded as well for even considering such a thing while throwing caution to the wind. However, the more time passes, the harder it becomes to deny the pull that urges his paws to follow the unknown...

[attr="class","arrgenMAINTEXT"]Patches lived the typical life for a kittypet. He was born to a mother named Chloe alongside three siblings; Socks, Mittens, and Smudge. In the beginning of his life, all was well and he was as content as a kitten could be.
He played with his siblings all day and was adored and doted on by their housefolk. The young kit’s life was full of happiness and love. Eventually, six moons of age came for the young cat. By this time he and his siblings were separated, taken from their mother, and each to new homes with new twolegs.
His new twolegs were kind, and it was clear they loved him a lot. Patches was adopted with his sister Mittens, and the two of them slowly adjusted to a new house away from the rest of their family. It was around this time that they were taken to the cutters.
At first, he was terrified when he woke up neutered and without his claws. But the housefolk were extra kind and caring to him during this time, soothing away all of his distress. What did he need his claws for, anyway? The twolegs would protect them from harm if there ever were any.
Over time he thought little of it. Patches healed from his surgeries without any complications. The tom found himself getting rounder and napping more. His energy levels weren’t quite what they used to be, though it didn’t matter much given his soft, well-cared-for life.
However, his contentment with this lifestyle would soon fade. The new twolegs that they were with were different than the twolegs that owned his mother. They let Patches and Mittens outside whenever either cat would meow by the door. The old twolegs never let them go outside.
Being outside the first time felt like a sensory overload. Patches was in awe at the beauty of being outdoors. The sounds, the scents, the feeling… it was as if a part of him that he didn’t even know existed had been awoken. Soon enough he was making friends with the neighbor cats.
Often, Patches, Mittens, and these cats would sit on the fence posts at the edge of their gardens, staring out into the dense woods that lay beyond their territory. It was here that he’d learn about the wild, savage forest cats that lived out there. He’d hear tales about how ferocious and dangerous they were, living a lawless life without the love and comfort of twolegs.
It shouldn’t have incited deep, uncontrollable feelings of curiosity, but it did. Soon enough Patches couldn’t escape the pull of the unknown, not even in his dreams. His dreams would become consumed by hunting mice and sleeping under the stars. They were desires he spoke to no one about, not even Mittens.
At twenty-four moons old, the intensity of his need to explore only grows stronger. Patches assumed it was a feeling that would fade with age but it hasn’t. The tom has come to realize how short life is and how little he knows outside of his kittypet realm. Such revelations only further fuel the temptation to take the first paw steps into exploration.
