With every day that passed Wrenwhisper’s familiarity with the moors seemed to return. It was taking time, and enough patrols that her limbs held a residual ache that refused to leave. But she could remember the tracks away from the camp, and certainly attach memories of training to parts of the thriving slopes. It was made all the easier by the brighteness of the day. Overhead the sun begun to reach toward its highest peak, in a blue sky scattered with only small patterns of clouds that seemed to twist and change in their forms with every gust of the wind high above. It was a soothing, warming sight, and certainly one she savoured as she moved across the territory, Nightingalepaw not far behind. “The hill I was thinking of is just up here!” She meowed brightly back toward her daughter, glancing over her shoulder with a gentle smile. She may not have been a queen any more, but that didn’t change her trying to find moments with her kits. Especially now there were no boundaries to such a thing. Turning around the bottom of a few boulders, she led the way up the sloping grass, until just near the peak there was a stretch without rocks, with a perfect view of the sky right through to the highstones. With a hum, she immediately dropped down and rolled onto her back; the scent of the grass flooding up around her. “Come lie with me! after the tour lichenstrike had given her on her first day of training, nightingalepaw was semi-familiar with windclan's territory but had yet to fully commit it to memory just yet. but she certainly wasn't going to say no to spending time with her dear mother, since they no longer shared a den together. the day was bright and sunny and the normally anxious molly actually felt quite at ease for once, offering a content smile as wrenwhisper announced their destination. yes, she remembered this hill, seeing it briefly during her tour, but it was still a bit surreal seeing it and feeling it underneath her paws herself. she still felt like a meek little kit, even though she was supposed to be an apprentice now.[break][break]
the view from the top was enough to take the small molly's breath away. she watched for a moment as wrenwhisper flopped onto her back and with a giggle the apprentice quickly followed suit. "yes mama!" she chirped with a soft purr, wriggling closer to the older molly and basking in her mother's warmth as she gazed up at the clouds above. for a moment she could almost believe she was back in the nursery, snuggling up close to her mother's belly and resting peacefully. even with all the anxieties that came with her new rank, it hadn't escaped her attention that her mother seemed so tired ever since they'd left the nursery. she'd be lying if she said it didn't worry her a bit.[break][break]
"the clouds look so soft and fluffy. i bet they'd be really comfy if we could lay on them." nightingalepaw mused with a small giggle. she'd always been a bit of a daydreamer, and often wondered about the things most others would dismiss as trivial or unimportant. she always worried if she was overthinking things too much. laying on her side, she stretched out her legs and opened her jaws wide in a soft yawn. then she rolled onto her belly and rested her chin on wrenwhisper's side. "i'm nervous about being an apprentice. but i'm excited, too. i like my mentor." as much as she wanted to hide behind wrenwhisper or mothpaw all her life, she couldn't do that. and she knew it. she hoped lichenstrike would help her be able to gain some confidence in herself.
