[attr="class","arrgenMAINTEXT"]Bitterness and revenge are what fuel's Hazesight's entire being. There is no one that he trusts, no one that he is completely loyal to other than himself. Even his mother is some kind of traitor. She was the one who allowed his brother to be taken. He holds no loyalties to Thunderclan, nor Shadowclan, and the only reason he does what he does is so that he could get his brother released and tear down the "empire" that Ashstar has created.
It's not that he doesn't care for others. He most certainly cares for his brother and for his mother, but his bitterness and pain keep him from having close relationships with them. Hailfire lives in Shadowclan, and it's way too painful to speak to his mother on a regular basis. The insecurities of abandonment and betrayal keep him from creating new relationships with others too. While he interacts with the rest of his clan, he keeps everyone at a tail's length to try to keep himself from hurting and being hurt. Especially with the tasks that his "leader" gives him.
Cool and collected, Hazesight has the uncanny ability to keep himself calm and relaxed even in very high-stress situations. Almost nothing surprises him, unless you're talking about the presence of Starclan, but more on that later. He's cautious and careful and expects the worst of everyone he meets. If you're going to attack him, he's ready. Putting his guard down isn't easy for him so he's always tense. But that doesn't mean has no confidence. He believes in his own reflexes and skills.
Right, back to Starclan, the faith that he doesn't believe in. They are magical cats in the sky that give "hope" to those who believe in them. And even if they were real, Hazesight would blame all his problems on them, especially since they let him and Hailfire exist in this situation in the first place.
Last but not least, Hazesight is a killer. It's not a job he enjoys doing, nor does he really care for it, but he has squashed any emotion inside of him that would hinder his job. If he never killed again, he would be fine, but that was not possible until Ashstar is dead and his brother is safe.

[attr="class","arrgenMAINTEXT"]Hazekit and Hailkit were born into an unfortunate situation. Their mother and father were from different clans and Fogstep was from the darkest clan of all. SHADOWCLAN. At least that was what his mother said when they were still suckling on her milk. And that was really the only thing he could remember about his kithood besides the day that his brother was taken.
They were best friends and had gotten along so well. At least when they were young they were. But the day Ashstar found out about them, was the day Hazekit lost his best friend. And that caused bitterness to rise in his heart. Especially for his mother. She was the bane of his existence for the rest of his life. He ignored her from that moment on, and no matter what she did, he wouldn't respond to even his name when she called him.
This was all her fault. He didn't even blame Fogstep for his side of the situation. But he also grew up hating Ashstar with a passion.
When he became an apprentice, he barely even paid attention to his mentor. It took a long time for the older tom to whip Hazepaw into shape. The young apprentice was crazy with anger over his mother and the loss of his brother. The only cat in the entire world that he actually cared about. He would even see Hailpaw on patrols or at gatherings and the other tom wouldn't even recognize him.
Even though in the beginning he was a wild and childish mess, it was his mentor Ratfang who chilled him out. With a harsh and firm paw, Ratfang was able to turn Hazepaw around. But instead of taking away Hazepaw's anger, the older tom taught him how to hide his emotions. Hazepaw became cold and distant from the rest of his clan.
His warrior ceremony was without pomp and circumstance. Named for his great skills in tracking and his bright yellow eyes, Hazesight didn't find any excitement in his first night as a warrior, alone, without his brother. He didn't know why he remembered and Hailpaw didn't. But it was painful and the bitterness for his own brother began to grow.
When he met the warrior known as Littlefoot it was the first time Ashstar gave him an assignment. Littlefoot became like Hazesight's mentor in the art of death. They trained hard, and for the first time, Hazesight felt like he'd found a tom who could take his father's place. One who understood his anger and taught him how to use it in battle. One he felt was actually trustworthy.
And when his first assignment came, it was a young apprentice called Amberpaw who turned up dead. One he found absolutely annoying. There was no real assignment. It was training him to become numb to the scent of death. He cried that night, but the next time it was a lot easier. This one was called Whitetail. A warrior younger than himself, and stupider.
Then Ashstar came to meet him for the first time since he was a young kit. And the Shadowclan leader gave him his first real assignment. Kill Beechthorn, the Thunderclan deputy. So he did. It wasn't easy, to kill him without suspicion. The tree was already about to fall anyway, all he had to do was give it a massive push. Beechthorn was easily manipulated to come, as he thought Hazesight wanted to open his heart about his mother and talk to him about his anger.
But he died, and Hazesight was victorious. However, Adderdawn told the clan she suspected foul play.
